The Nature Opportunity Gap is defined as the unequal access to parks, green spaces, and outdoor experiences that disproportionately affects communities of color and low-income communities, limiting the health, social, and recreational benefits that nature provides.
A few statistics:
-In the US, 75% of people of color live in nature-deprived areas (compared to 23% of white communities)
-Hiking remains the least racial and ethnically and diverse major outdoor activity.
-Less than 2% of skiers identify as Black in the United States, and only 10% percent identify as BIPOC.
Vermont's outdoor landscape is world-class, but the people who enjoy and benefit from it do not yet reflect the full diversity of state.
Testimonials

"Winooski Wanderers has changed my whole perspective of high school. I thought these 4 years were going to be very boring and mostly dependent on my grades. This club has given me something to look forward to, a way to decrease my stress from school. It would be an understatement to say that the opportunity has helped me."
